Taking care of your teeth is highly important for overall health. This is an area that is prone to infections, bacteria growth, and many other problems that can lead to poor quality of health. In order to take care of your teeth in the best way possible, it's important to not only brush and floss everyday and visit your dentist regularly, but to also follow some tips that you may not have considered before. Here are four tips not many people follow when it comes to their dental health:

  1. Changing the Toothbrush Every Three Months: Over time, your toothbrush is actually going to start harboring bacteria. This means that when you go to use it, you are just spreading more bacteria over your mouth instead of getting rid of it. This is why you should replace your toothbrush at least every 3 months. However, just to be sure that you don't forget to change it, you should consider replacing it every time you have to purchase new toothpaste.
  2. Use a Tongue Scraper: Not many people use a tongue scraper in the morning. Your tongue actually harbors a great deal of bacteria that will continue to spread to the gums and other areas of your mouth throughout the day. This is why it's important to use one every morning to get rid of all that bacteria growth that takes place while you are sleeping. Doing this is also going to help get rid of bad breath.
  3. Eat Crisp Foods After a Meal: When you sit down to have a meal and won't brush your teeth afterwards for a while, eat some crisp foods afterwards instead. These foods include apples, celery, and carrots, which helps to keep teeth clean. These foods also help boost saliva production, and salvia is needed to help wash away bacteria from your mouth.
  4. Brush First Thing in the Morning and Before Bed: Many people think that as long as they are brushing twice a day, it doesn't matter when it's done. However, this is not the case. This is because if you aren't brushing first thing in the morning, all the plaque build up that happens at night is going to slow down saliva production. When you go to eat breakfast, since there is little saliva production, the food particles and other bacteria isn't going to be washed away from your mouth as quickly. Also, brushing right before bed is important for getting rid of food particles and other bacteria build up that would otherwise sit in your mouth while you are sleeping.

When you follow these four dental tips, you can be sure that you are taking care of your mouth in the best way possible.
